Well the summer holidays are finally here, and if your anything like me you find yourself planning and begetting every week of these six weeks so your children are at lest busy some of the time other than watching tv, eating the enter contents of kitchen, or here those lovely words "mum am bored". you find yourself checking the weather forecast to see what the weather is like and hope and pray it doesn't rain for more than a few days. well I've got you am not saying i can plan the whole summer holidays but i do have some ideas, that are super easy do to, your children will enjoy, what's more they will not break the bank and they are fun
This craft is so easy to do and can be done at any time throughout the year, go out doors and collect flowers, around this time of year flowers are in full bloom. you can go out into the garden and pick them from there, go to the local supermarket and buy a bunch or go for a walk down the country lanes or the woods and collect wild flowers, leave the flowers somewhere cool for a day to make sure there is no insects living in them, now your ready to press them, get the flower press or a heavy book, kitchen roll or blotting paper. place the flowers down on the paper/roll then place another sheet on top, press down with the palm of your hard gently, once the flowers are slightly flat place them in the flower press or in the middle of the heavy book (be aware the flowers could stain the page). the flowers will then be ready in about 2-3 weeks, once they are dry carefully remove the paper, as they might be stuck to the sheets.
When your flowers are ready there is many crafts you can do, stick them to card to make a card for your love ones, glue them to jam jars, add a candle and you have a tealight holder, you could add them to photo frames to make that photo extra special.
If your going to the sea side, its the perfect pass time to walk on the beach and collect shells, or if your not going to the seaside you can buy shells from your local fish mongers. shells are so versatile and can make beautiful crafts, so as my duck pounds, you just need to use your imagination, you can make anything shells remember the little shell animals at the sea front.
you can make a old photo frame, look like new just paint your shells, maybe add some glitter then glue them to the frame. you can make a cute little trinket dish, paint the side of the shell with paint, add glitter, little dry flowers, then line the inside of the shell with scrapbook paper, making a beautiful home made gift.
Nothing says summer than those summer nights, sitting outside and watching the sun set, make those nights even more magical with a home made tealight holder.
all you need to do is get a jam jar remove the label (the easy way to do this is rubbing alcohol) if you want to paint the jam jar now is the time to do it, but only do one coat (two will stop the candle light from shinning through) while the paint is drying ask you child to draw a character such as a fairy, cat flower or superhero, on black card. The second method take a clear jam jar, cut out hearts, flowers etc out of tissue paper. The top of the jars can be decorated with garden string and charms.
This sensory art activity is great for little kids, but I can guarantee big kids will just as much. it doesn't cost a thing and is totally safe to use, plus its doesn't make any mess.
Get the children to help make these ice paints its al part of the fun, get an large ice cube tray or lolly pop mould , add concentrated food colouring ( I get mine from amazon) add 5 drops of colouring of each colour to the cubes, (you will need to use 20 if your using normal food colouring, add the lolly pop sticks and freeze overnight, when you take it out of the freezer let it sit for 2 minutes before use, the colours should come out onto the paper as the ice melts.
